A human chain was organized by anti-discrimination students in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kishoreganj on Monday (October 7) at 10 a.m., demanding justice for Idris Mia, the former chairman of Rashidabad Union, Sadar Upazila.
The protesters claimed that Idris Mia was seriously injured in a police firing on August 4 while taking part in the anti-discrimination student movement. They further alleged that after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country on August 5, there were widespread attacks on the homes of Awami League leaders and activists across Kishoreganj, mirroring incidents elsewhere in the country.
Despite being hospitalized from his injuries, a case was later filed against Idris Mia, accusing him of involvement in an attack on the residence of Awami League leader Chapal Burman in Rashidabad. The students argued that the charges against Idris Mia were fabricated, as he was undergoing treatment for his injuries at the time of the alleged attack.
More than two hundred students from various schools, colleges, and madrasas participated in the hour-long human chain, calling for the immediate withdrawal of the false charges and seeking justice for the former chairman.
The demonstration reflected growing discontent among students, who urged the authorities to investigate the matter fairly and hold accountable those responsible for the wrongful accusations against Idris Mia.
