Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) apprehended a mother and son from India as they attempted to illegally cross back into their home country at the Akhaura border in Brahmanbaria.
The arrest took place on Tuesday morning (October 8) by the patrol team of Fakirmora BOP. The individuals detained were identified as Panna Rani Dev (54) and her son Abhi Das (18), both residents of Dhalai district in Tripura, India.
According to Lt. Colonel Farah Mohammad Imtiaz, captain of BGB 25 battalion, Panna Dev and her son were trying to return to India through the Abdullahpur border with the assistance of two accomplices. The pair had entered Bangladesh a week earlier to visit relatives at their in-laws’ house in Kishoreganj. Reports indicate that they received help from a local individual affiliated with the Ramnagar police station on the Indian side of the border, who facilitated their entry into Bangladesh.
The BGB’s timely intervention highlights ongoing border security efforts to prevent illegal crossings and ensure safety along the Bangladesh-India border.
