In a shocking incident at Pakundia police station in Kishoreganj, an 18-year-old garment worker fell victim to a heinous crime, having been gang-raped while seeking to meet her alleged lover. Chilling episode unfolded when police apprehended three individuals in connection with reprehensible act.
On a fateful Saturday afternoon, garment worker, hailing from Pakundia, found herself in distress, having been rescued and subsequently admitted to 250-bed General Hospital in Kishoreganj. Employed in a Gazipur-based garment factory, this young woman’s pursuit of a livelihood took a dark turn.
Three individuals now in custody are the sons of Ali Akbar in Bir Pakundia area of Pakundia upazila—Kausar Ahmed (24), Zubayd Hasan Shuvo (18), and Tofazzal Hossain Raju (24). Their arrest, confirmed by Pakundia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman Titu, sheds light on a horrifying crime that has shaken community.
According to information from victim and law enforcement, young girl, a Pakundia resident, forged a connection with Sabbir Hossain from the same upazila through mobile communication. What started as friendship evolved into a love relationship, culminating in plans for marriage. Tragic turn of events unfolded when girl visited Sabbir’s house to discuss their impending union.
During an afternoon ride in an autorickshaw driven by Humayun Kabir, situation took a nightmarish turn as Kausar, Zubayd, and their associates intercepted vehicle near Tarakandi market in upazila. Girl was forcibly taken to grounds of Tarakandi Fazil Madrasa. Subsequently, a demand for 10 thousand rupees was made from Sabbir, alleged lover, under threat that victim and autorickshaw occupants would not be released until sum was paid.
This harrowing tale underscores urgent need for justice and highlights grim reality faced by vulnerable individuals in our society. Arrests offer a glimmer of hope for victim and serve as a reminder of collective responsibility to combat such atrocities.
In a desperate turn of events, Sabbir’s friend Ashraf found himself grappling with an insurmountable demand for money. “We don’t have funds they’re asking for. Where do we find such a sum?” he lamented. Fueled by a sudden idea, Ashraf thought seeking help from police would lead to rescue of their auto-rickshaw. Little did he anticipate unfolding tragedy that awaited them at Pakundia police station.
Asaduzzaman Titu, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pakundia Police Station, grimly stated, “Three arrested individuals have confessed to their involvement in incident.” This revelation adds a chilling layer to unfolding narrative. Accused have now been handed over to Kishoreganj District Court, marking a critical juncture in pursuit of justice on a sorrowful Sunday afternoon.
