In a heartbreaking account, Mohammad, son of Fazlur Rahman, revealed that his father, aged 63, passed away on a hospital floor still in handcuffs. Fazlur Rahman was among numerous opposition activists apprehended in turbulent months leading up to Sunday’s parliamentary election in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party, led by former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, claimed Rahman as one of ten individuals who died in police custody. Arrested on October 25, Rahman’s family asserted that he fell critically ill in jail, subsequently being moved to a hospital where he tragically passed away over a week ago.

Family alleges that Rahman, a vocal BNP supporter for 35 years, was specifically targeted. His arrest occurred just three days before a major opposition rally turned violent, resulting in numerous casualties.
